I am currently a third-year PhD student in the Centre for Systems Biology (University of Birmingham) under direct supervision of Dr Dov Stekel and Prof. Chris Thomas.
I obtained my MSc degree in Physics with specialization in Biomedical Engineering at the Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland. The interdisciplinary character of my studies and a strong personal interest in molecular biology led my research activity into the area of computational biology. Prior to my current position I worked on potassium ion channel KcsA K+ using Molecular Dynamic with Prof. Christopher Ramseyer at the University of Franch-Comte in Besancon, France and on species selection for protein co-evolution analyses with Dr Florencio Pazos Cabaleiro in the National Centre for Biotechnology in Madrid, Spain.
My PhD project is focused on the central control operon (cco) of RK2 plasmid (IncP). We have been using deterministic and stochastic approaches to model gene regulation of the cco, which has been quite broadly investigated experimentally. Parameter estimation let us stochastically imitate behaviour of the system in its environment, where plasmid replication and cell division are included. We have been trying to understand a mechanism of this particular regulation and an importance of this gene circuit for RK2 plasmid.
In a broader perspective, I am interested in computational methods applied in molecular biology, particularly modeling and analyzing data obtained in the course of simulations of various biosystems.
